Prosperiti
Role: (Associate) Director, Policy Engagement
Who we are:
Prosperiti builds state capacity to increase economic freedom in India. We are on a mission to catalyse a series of 1991-like reforms at the state level so that entrepreneurs can create more jobs and workers can earn more. Persuading states to embark on this prosperity journey requires identifying what needs to change in regulation, building consensus on brick-by-brick reform, and making progress iteratively. We need deep knowledge combined with rolled-up sleeves. This is the promise of what we do.
What we do:
We produce insights on state-level regulation, identify opportunities for reforms, help build policy consensus, and assist in implementation. We release issue-specific State of Regulation reports and bi-weekly broadcasts (insights and explainers) to help states make informed decisions. In partner states, we provide design, drafting, and execution support for accelerating regulatory reforms. Of all the areas that states regulate, for the near term, our focus is to reform labour regulations and building regulations.
Who we work with:
We have thus far supported three state governments in their journey to prosperity. In Punjab, we have worked with the government to draft state labour Rules and introduce revised building regulation standards. In Uttar Pradesh, we are assisting the Department of Labour to introduce reforms to Factories Act, Shops Act, and Contract Labour Acts. In Tamil Nadu, we assisted the MSME department to draft a chapter on ease of doing business for the Expert Committee MSME Report. We have also provided research input to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) on labour regulations.
Our leadership and supporters:
Our Co-founders are women leaders with strong relationships in the public policy, media, and philanthropic communities in India and the international liberal network.

Who are we looking for:
The incoming (Associate) Director will be a leadership hire at Prosperiti, and will build and run our policy advisory practice. This individuals primary role is to persuade and help states to reform regulations for job creation.
This is a persuasion/sales role with a difference. The (Associate) Director will lead the charge on persuading states to reform regulations in at least two of Indias toughest issues: labour and land use. S/He will develop collaborative working relationships with the leadership of partner states, design engagement strategies to maintain reform momentum, and support government departments to carry reform ideas to action. The role requires agility, patience, and enthusiasm. It also requires intellectual curiosity, a reading habit, and sound knowledge of Indias political and administrative systems. What do you need to know about us:
Qualifications and hard skills for the role include training in economics and/public administration, and experience in engaging with research based policy advisory. Obviously, we are looking at experienced folks for this role (10+ years of experience). We expect that serious experience working with governments, either inside or alongside, will be critical for success in this role. In addition, a basic grounding in liberal philosophy (why economic freedom matters) will help us align at the starting point. But, at Prosperiti, culture fit is a priority. So instead of an education/experience wishlist, we are sharing our principles, values, and skills maturity matrix. We are looking for folks who can reflect honestly on each of these and see if the mutual fit is right.
