India Leaders for Social Sector (ILSS) is a non-profit that aims to be Indias preeminent leadership development organization for the social sector. We aim to increase the effectiveness of the top 500 nonprofits in the sector by 2x to create catalytic impact at scale. As we grow, we seek a visionary leader to amplify our message, strengthen our brand, and deepen our impact.

Overview to achieve the mission, ILSS has a three-pronged approach:

  • Bringing corporate talent into leadership and board positions in the social sector
  • Running well-researched capacity-building programs in critical domains for the social sector
  • Building the social sector ecosystem to instill a strong focus on high-quality talent/talent development

ILSS operates through five core areas Governance, Talent, Digital Transformation, Fundraising, and Leadership Development via its four Centres of Excellence and the People Practices Program:

  • Centre of Excellence for Leadership: Develops future leaders through programs like the Leadership Program, Emerging Women Leaders Program, and Young Leaders Program, along with mentorship and thought leadership forums.
  • Centre of Excellence for Board & Governance: Enhances governance practices with training modules, advisory services, and programs such as the Board Leadership Program and Board Governance Program.
  • Centre of Excellence for Fundraising: Supports fundraising professionals with resources, training, and networking through the ILSS Fundraising Program
  • Centre of Excellence for Digital Transformation: Empowers SPOs to drive catalytic impact at scale by crafting their own digital transformation journey, through a holistic understanding of the art of the possible with digital transformation (DT), industry best practices and expert mentorship.
  • Other Programs and Events: The ILSS People Practices Program enables organisation leaders in the sector to prioritise wholesome people practices, building the organisations capabilities, growth prospects, and sustainability in the long run. ILSS also hosts sector-wide conferences, including the India Fundraising Conference, to foster dialogue and collaboration

Since 2017, ILSS has built a community of more than 900 mid - senior leaders and have worked across more than 400 social purpose organisations.

Role Overview

The Head-Strategic Marketing, Branding, and Communications will shape and drive the organisations marketing and communications strategy, building a compelling brand presence that resonates with diverse stakeholders, including donors, partners, beneficiaries, and the public. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will be a critical part of the leadership team, helping the organization achieve its ambitious growth and impact goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing, branding, and communications strategy aligned with organisational goals.
  • Position ILSS as a thought leader and innovator within the social impact sector.
  • Provide guidance on brand consistency and integrity across all touchpoints.

Brand Development and Management

  • Oversee the development of a cohesive brand identity that reflects the mission and values of the organisation.
  • Lead creative initiatives, including storytelling, visual branding, and content strategy, to elevate brand recognition and engagement.
  • Manage brand guidelines and ensure consistent application across campaigns and materials.

Integrated Marketing and Campaigns

  • Plan and implement multi-channel marketing campaigns to reach diverse audiences, including digital, print, and experiential formats.
  • Identify and leverage trends, data, and insights to enhance outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Partner with fundraising teams to develop compelling donor-centric campaigns.

Communications and Public Relations

  • Craft impactful narratives that convey the organizations mission, vision, and achievements.
  • Cultivate relationships with media, influencers, and key stakeholders to increase visibility.
  • Serve as a spokesperson when required and oversee crisis communications and reputation management.

Team Development and Collaboration

  • Build and mentor a high-performing marketing and communications team.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including programs, fundraising, and operations, to align messaging and priorities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in marketing, branding, and communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in the non-profit, social enterprise, or startup ecosystem is highly desirable.
